This week, the SSSC Board released an “Acknowledgement, Apology and Reparations Program Announcement.”
This statement can be viewed at https://epsweb.org/reparations/.
We expect that this statement will bring up a wide variety of emotions and reflections for both current and former members of your communities. We honor each of you receiving this, whatever your experience of it might be.
At their best, words of acknowledgement and apology are not a closing – but instead, an opening for ever deeper engagement and dialogue. We have faith in the wisdom of the Kundalini Yoga and Sikh Dharma communities to use this moment to propel you forward: forward in your learning, in your expressions of need, and forward in your capacity to support one another in the spirit of compassion.
These moments can represent important opportunities to connect with others, and we encourage reaching out to those with whom you find safety and comfort. As facilitators of the Compassionate Reconciliation Project, we would also value hearing from you. If you would like to share your reflections with us, any emails sent to info@compassionatereconciliation.com will be carefully read by us and compiled anonymously for review by the Compassionate Reconciliation Commission. This will help to inform the next steps in the Compassionate Reconciliation Project.
We look forward to hearing from you, and are committed to learning from all that is shared as we continue to accompany you in this journey.
Yours in kindness, compassion, and gratitude,
The Just Outcomes Team: Catherine Bargen, Matthew Hartman and Aaron Lyons
