Dear Kundalini Yoga and Sikh Dharma Communities,
We are happy to provide this biweekly update on the Compassionate Reconciliation Project. In this communication, we want to fill you in on some of the recent community engagement activities and update you on what’s happening with the Compassionate Reconciliation Project (CRP).
Updates on Community Engagement Activities
Since our last update, we have participated in the following Community Engagement Activities:
1. Solstice Event: On June 20th, Just Outcomes presented at the 3HO Solstice Event regarding the Compassionate Reconciliation Project. In addition, participants had a chance to explore elements of trauma, healing and dialogue which contribute to the success of justice and reconciliation processes. This exploration culminated in the opportunity to experience circle process engagement on issues important to the 3HO community.
2. Q&A Session: Just Outcomes hosted and facilitated our second Q&A Session on July 5th to answer questions about the Compassionate Reconciliation Project (which we highlighted in our last communication). We will be releasing a link for our August 24 Q&A in a future communication!)
3. International Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association (IKYTA) Community Discussion: On July 6th, Just Outcomes facilitated a three-hour session for all interested Kundalini Yoga teachers. The goal of this session was to provide a space for open sharing and dialogue about teachers current experiences and perspectives within the Kundalini Yoga community.
4. Kundalini Research Institute (KRI) Summit: Just Outcomes facilitated a session for both tracks of the KRI Summit on July 8th and 9th that was centered on “Building Bridges.” The focus of these sessions was to invite in critical reflection around and create space to talk, process, and reflect on the topics of power, hierarchy, and just relationships within the KRI community.
Updates on the Compassionate Reconciliation Commission
The following activities have been our focus for the past month to support the Compassionate Reconciliation Commission:
1. Facilitating meetings for the nine Advisory Teams as they continue to engage in additional outreach to expand and diversify their teams and select their primary representatives for the Compassionate Reconciliation Commission. (For more information on the Advisory Teams and the CRC, see our April 16th Bi-weekly update by clicking here).
2. Developing and delivering two tracks of a seven hour “Facilitator Training” to the Advisory Teams to empower and equip them with tools, resources, and capacities to provide their own internal facilitation for their teams (one of these sessions is upcoming on July 13 and 14).
3. Engaging with the organizational leadership in their ongoing support of the Compassionate Reconciliation Commission.
4. Providing intervention and facilitation for areas of identified need in the global community.
Over the summer we will convene the Compassionate Reconciliation Commission, comprised of the representatives chosen by each Advisory Team. Our initial focus will be on building relationships amongst the group, developing guidelines, and preparing them for the strategic planning for the Compassionate Reconciliation Project. In the fall, we will begin to offer public trainings on restorative justice and related processes to all members of the Kundalini Yoga and Sikh Dharma communities. Please stay tuned for more information on these events and when they will be offered.
Yours in kindness, compassion, and gratitude,
Catherine Bargen, Matthew Hartman, Cara Walsh, Aaron Lyons, and our extended Just Outcomes Team
